Huntly Piggery
Huntly Piggery is a large, multi-module pig farm at Huntly, north of Bendigo VIC. Footage and photographs were obtained within unit/module 3.
The piggery has a security patrol and locked doors to stop activists getting photos.
The material depicts industry-standard farrowing crates, with sows confined to small metal cages. A number of dead piglets were found, some likely killed by overlay (where the sow accidentally lies on top of them due to her immobility within the cage). One dead piglet was found with a small hole in his belly through which some of his insides had been pulled out, and his eye had been gouged out.
Huntly Piggery was the third to be exposed as part of Aussie Farms' response to the pig industry's self-declared "National Bacon Week" 2014.
