Balpool Station Piggery
Balpool Station Piggery, owned by Rivalea Australia, is located in a remote region of western NSW, between Swan Hill and Deniliquin. It is one of the largest piggeries in NSW, spread over 6 modules from farrow to finish or "birth to bacon", as stated on site documents.
Footage was obtained in early 2014 inside the farrowing crate sheds of the breeding module. Aside from the usual issues of prolonged confinement in small cages on hard metal floors, and the surgical mutilation of piglets without pain relief, multiple dead piglets and injured sows were found. One sow in particular was suffering from a large, deformed prolapse.
These are the same conditions and issues found at dozens of piggeries around the country; industry standard Australian pig farming.
