The Animal Legal Defense Fund, the Humane Society of the United States, Farm Sanctuary, and the Humane Farming Association filed a motion to intervene in U.S. District Court in Fresno, in a lawsuit being brought by meat industry trade associations attempting to overturn a California law banning the use of sick and disabled animals in the food supply. California law was recently strengthened to protect animals and humans after an HSUS investigation at a Chino slaughterhouse exposed horrific abuse of downed cows—many of whom were destined to become ground beef in the National School Lunch Program.
Watch the video of the undercover investigation at Chinos Hallmark/Westland slaughterhouse to see the abuses of desperately sick and injured animals that the coalition of animal protection organizations are fighting to stop. Warning: disturbing footage of animal abuse. Video provided by HSUS.
