A large steer in the knockbox - This steer was filmed being shot multiple times after becoming stuck in the knockbox. Workers attempt to force the cow into the kill room using a range of tools, including a hammer, a metal bar and their own legs. This steer continues to display signs of consciousness, including blinking, even after having been shot in the head several times.

Cows are shot in the knockbox, directly opposite holding pens where cows and sheep wait to be killed. A rifle is used to shoot cows in the head, as a way of immobilising them before they are tipped into a kill room and have their throats slit. Footage captured by hidden cameras in 2023 showed cows being shot up to eight times, while still displaying signs of consciousness, including blinking. Other cows were filmed becoming stuck in the knockbox, and having to be forced into the kill room by workers, who used objects such as hammers and metal bars to force the cow inside. - Captured at The Local Meat Co, Claude Road TAS Australia.
