Test case could spell the end of abattoir gas chambers
The widespread use of “gas chambers” to knock pigs unconscious before their slaughter is under a cloud as animal activists seek to overturn the abattoir practice in the Supreme Court of Victoria.
If successful, they say, a ban on gassing pigs before slaughter could create a national precedent that replaces carbon dioxide gassing with the more expensive electrical stunning method.
