Victoria’s pork industry could be slapped with new guidelines and on-the-spot checks
Victoria’s pork industry could be slapped with new guidelines and subject to random on-the-spot compliance checks from animal welfare inspectors, if the Allan government accepts a raft of recommendations from a parliamentary inquiry.
But furious Coalition MPs have blasted the inquiry process labelling it a “political stunt” led by Animal Justice Party Georgie Purcell and supported by Labor and the Greens with the intention of shutting down the pig industry.
The committee of MPs - chaired by Ms Purcell and made up of three Labor MPs, three Coalition MPs and one Greens MP - called for a major overhaul to the way pigs are farmed in Victoria.
