NSW push to amend surveillance act for exemptions amid ‘horrific’ pig gassing footage
A push to allow the publication of “horrific” footage of mistreatment of animals, including that of pigs being stun-gassed across slaughterhouses, is afoot in NSW.
The parliament-based move in NSW to publish the illegally obtained footage comes amid ongoing debate about a similar exemption to allow ICAC the same powers, which was permitted in September.
NSW MLC Emma Hurst will introduce a bill when parliament resumes next week to amend the Surveillance Devices Act 2007 to allow for public-interest exemptions, under which the footage could fall.
