Pork Industry Tries To Shut Down Whistleblower Website As Another Piggery Exposed

Earlier this week Australian Pork Limited filed a complaint against Animal Liberation’s “Australian Pig Farming: The Inside Story” website to try to get it taken offline, as photos and footage are published from a sixth Australian piggery.

Boen Boe Stud Piggery, at Joadja NSW, is the latest intensive pig farm to be exposed by Animal Liberation ACT, with last night’s release of covertly-obtained photos and footage depicting the same cruelty seen earlier at Wally’s Piggery, Allain’s Piggery, Tennessee Piggery, Lansdowne Piggery and, most recently, Strathvean Piggery.

This follows an attempt by the industry’s representative body, Australian Pork Limited, to get the campaign’s website aussiepigs.com.au transferred to its ownership, in order to prevent the Australian public from seeing what life is truly like for the pigs who end up on the dinner table. This attempt was made in the form of a complaint to the auDA, the regulator for Australian domain names.

Clare Atkinson, spokesperson for Animal Liberation ACT, said: “They’re getting scared. When we exposed Wally’s Piggery last year, they tried to pass it off as a one?off, a rogue operator; but now that we’ve exposed five additional piggeries with more to come, they know they can’t keep using the same line and are instead trying to get these investigations swept under the rug. It’s a desperate bid to maintain the secrecy their industry relies on.”

The new photos and footage show pigs confined to tiny metal and concrete cages in farrowing crates, many with bleeding wounds, beside dead and dying piglets; along with particularly severe cases of ear cutting, a painful process inflicted at a few days of age for identification purposes.
