Baby animals deserve sanctuary, not slaughter.
In June, investigators installed hidden cameras at Cedar Meats slaughterhouse in Brooklyn capturing the handling and slaughter of thousands of animals, including newborn lambs and kids born in the holding pens of the slaughterhouse.
The footage shows workers writing and drawing on the bodies of sheep and goats with blood, animals appearing to have their throats slit while fully conscious, goats, sheep and calves struggling to escape while soaked in the blood of others and even one mother goat giving birth in the stunning restraint, seconds before her throat is slit.
Newborn goats and lambs are born in the holding pens of the slaughterhouse almost every day. Since the footage was published, a small group of concerned citizens have been trying to negotiate with the slaughterhouse to release these baby animals to experienced carers. These newborns are worth nothing to the slaughterhouse. They are shot with a bolt gun and tossed in the bin.
We are calling on local residents to add their name to this petition, calling on Cedar Meats to end their practice of slaughtering newborn goats and lambs and instead establish an adoption procedure for these newborns.
