A mother dying alone in a gas chamber

Last month at BMK Food Slaughterhouse, our cameras captured the last moments of a sow, as she was lowered into the CO2 gas chamber.

During her short life she would have been forcibly impregnated multiple times until her ability to give birth to healthy piglets declined.

She undoubtedly had many of her piglets die, if not in the farrowing crate, then at six months old they would have been painfully gassed to death.

Now the same is happening to her.

Collapsing to the ground and struggling to breathe with the word ‘cull’ spray painted on her back - this is no way to treat a mother, or any animal for that matter.

If this is what the industry calls humane, how can we trust them?
