Abattoir boss admits calves ill-treated after Animal Liberation releases video
The boss of an award-winning Tasmanian abattoir has admitted calves were ill-treated at his Cressy site.
Animal Liberation Tasmania forwarded anonymous footage from Tasmanian Quality Meats abattoir to the Primary Industries Department in December.
The group's campaign director Mehr Gupta said it showed workers beating male calves until they collapsed and throwing them to the ground by the ears.
Abattoir managing director owner Brian Oliver said he was devastated at the mistreatment but the company was working to ensure it did not happen again.
