World first footage of baby goats bludgeoned to death in front of mothers

Melbourne – Animal Liberation Victoria (ALV) has released horrific undercover footage obtained at a Victorian Goat Farm which shows newborn goats being legally bludgeoned to death in front of their mothers. With the release of the footage ALV is calling on companies that use goat’s milk, including Miranda Kerr’s KORA Organics, to stop profiting from the slaughter of baby goats.

The footage, released at GoatTruth.com, shows a worker at North View Nannies Goat Dairy in Bannockburn, Victoria, removing baby goats from their mothers and bashing their heads in with a metal pole. The baby goats are seen convulsing on the ground as they die.

Everything the worker is shown doing is completely legal. Codes of Practice and guidelines regarding goat farming are not mandatory and farmed animals are not legally protected in the Australian Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act (1986). Even though codes are not mandatory, many nonetheless state that blunt force trauma killing of goats less than 24 hours old can be considered ‘humane destruction’.

ALV President Noah Hannibal said today, “These newborns males are killed because they will never produce milk, and are therefore considered useless to the dairy industry. This brutal slaughter takes place as part of an inherently cruel industry. As long as consumers buy dairy products, it will continue.”

Following the release of the footage ALV is calling on companies who use goat’s milk to dump dairy, starting with Miranda Kerr’s KORA organics, which incorrectly states that its products are 'cruelty free'.

ALV Spokeswoman Emma Hakansson states, “We believe that Miranda Kerr will be horrified to learn about the hidden cruelty behind the goat milk industry. We hope that Miranda, a new mother herself, can extend her compassion to mother goats who are forced to watch their children beaten to death in front of them.”
